Bridal Chest:    $65,000.00
AUCTION HOUSE: TREADWAY
MAKER: GUSTAV

The commanding Stickley Bridal chest, with iron strap hinges and corners was a short lived contribution to early American Arts and Crafts. The trunk has no model number, having been made for only a few years during Gustav Stickley’s experimental period (1900-1903). The bridal chest shown above is from The Stickley Museum’s collection. It is composed of American Chestnut with cedar lined interior. American chestnut is now all but extinct, but was used by Gustav and other furniture makers in the early 20th century. This chest was one of many that resided in an Adirondack hotel for many years. An oak version of the bridal chest was sold in 2002 for $65,000, solidifying its reputation as one of Stickley’s most desired antiques. Stickley now offers a re-issued bridal chest in oak (#89-0117) or in cherry (#89-0117).
