Spindle settle:    $21,600.00
AUCTION HOUSE: RAGO/CRAFTSMAN AUCTIONS
MAKER: GUSTAV

Stickley spindle furniture is among the most recognizable and beautiful. Gustav Stickley’s Craftsman Workshops and L. & J.G. Stickley were both responsible for producing jaw-dropping spindle furniture, and this spindle cube settle, a Gustav Stickley example, is one of the earliest. The interplay between mass and space delivers paradox: The furniture seems both light and heavy. The thin spindles accentuate the vertical, but their repetition stresses the horizontal. Of course, you don’t have to over think it. You can just appreciate the structural beauty of the construction. Stickley’s current Spindle Settle (#89-0291) and Spindle Love Seat (#89-0290) are direct descendents of this antique.
