Eastwood Chair:    $245,000.00
AUCTION HOUSE: SOTHEBY'S
MAKER: GUSTAV

The Eastwood Chair was a departure from the earlier arts and crafts style furniture that Gustav Stickley had created in 1900. Stickley’s style was still evolving and the proportions of the Eastwood chair are larger and more substantial. Its popularity is owed to its simplicity. The horizontal and vertical lines are stressed, the mortise and tenon joint in the arm, the clipped corners, and the subtle arch to the underside of the arm are the only decorative elements to be found. Indeed, the chair’s scale and proportion are inviting, and Gustav was known to have the Eastwood chair in his home in Syracuse, NY and at his farm in Parsippany, NJ.
